Department for Geotechnics and Special Structures
The department performs research, education, training and consultancy services in the fields of geotechnical earthquake engineering and engineering seismology. Whenever complex and weak ground conditions are obstacles for an engineering project, our professional stuff is prepared to face the challenge and manage all the geotechnical issues toward successful realization of the project objectives. Our recommendations meet the highest standards in geotechnical and foundation engineering which provide sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions for a wide range of engineering structures (buildings, bridges, roads, dams, nuclear power plants, ..).
The Geotechnical laboratory within the department is equipped with compact solid state apparatuses enabling simulation of a wide range of soil behaviour and evaluation of any deformability/strength soil parameter under any type of loading conditions (static, impact, traffic, earthquake). The newly designed large laminar box for shaking table tests is a unique tool for modelling and investigation of complex SSI problems. The well equipped laboratory, the professors and the experienced scientific stuff create an excellent opportunity for promising students and researchers to realize their ambitions in geotechnical earthquake engineering and engineering seismology.
