Strategic partnership with INDUCTA

IZIIS has established a strategic partnership with INDUCTA Engineering from Sydney, Australia. INDUCTA has a number of commercial software packages for structural analysis and reinforced concrete design of buildings.

Signing of Memorandum of Understanding of cooperation between UKIM-IZIIS and IEM-CEA

On April 18th,  2011, a high delegation from the China Earthquake Administration (CEA) led by Mr. Liu Yuchen, the Vicepresident of CEA visited the Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology (IZIIS), Skopje, for the purpose of signing a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of  earthquake risk reduction.

CEA represents a govermental body directly under the State Council,  authorized by the "Law of the People's Republic of China on Protecting against and Mitigating Earthqauke Disasters". Its main function is formulating and implementing national development strategies, guidelines and policies, laws and regulations as well as standards regarding earthquake preparedness and disaster mitigation. The beginnings of this body date back to 1971 when the National Council of China established the China National Earthquake Bureau (CNEB). In 1998, this Bureau grew into Chinese Earthquake Administration. Today, 31 local administrations function within CEA and practically cover the entire territory of the Republic of China.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed between UKIM – IZIIS represented by Prof. Dr. Mihail Garevski, Director of the Institute and Mr. Zhang Mengping, Deputy Director of the Institue for Engineering Mechanics within CEA.

The cooperation under this Memorandum of Understanding includes topics of mutual interests as follows: protection of urban areas against seismic hazard using information techniques, earthquake engineering and engineering seismology, seismic hazard reduction measures and other topics mutually determined by the parties.

The cooperation shall be carried out through: exchange of scholars, participation in research programmes; joint organization of scientific meetings, seminars and courses on the subject(s) laid down in the Memorandum of Understanding, exchange of scientific information and scientific papers and other means of cooperation mutually determined by the parties.

IZIIS being a participant in the FP7 - Series project, its laboratory for Dynamic Testing and Informatics (DynLab), intensively works on a personal telepresence system for live and offline streaming of the future experiments. Live DEMO stream of one of the cameras, acquired for this purpose, can be viewed at the following link.

In the course of 2009/2010 the Dynamic Testing Laboratory has perofmed a series of seismic qualification tests for Instrument (Voltage and Current) transformers from different manufacturers according the IEEE-693 standard.

New state-of-the-art triaxial integral system for static and dynamic testing of soil specimen is installed at the Laboratory for dynamics of soils and foundations. Advanced system’s specifications enable performing wide variety of tests on soil specimens.
