CONDITIONS FOR IZIIS’ POSTDOCTORAL STUDIES

The Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology (IZIIS), Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje has a long international tradition of about 40 years in the domain of educational (postgraduate master and doctoral studies ) and scientific-research activities in the field of earthquake engineering, engineering seismology and other related scientific fields.

In the course of international tradition, a larger number of professors and experts have stayed at IZIIS  as lecturers, special consultants or partners in the realization of joint scientific-research projects from almost all the world renowned universities.

For candidates interested in individual advanced training in a number of related scientific fields, IZIIS provides all the necessary conditions for realization of individual postdoctoral studies

TIME DURATION OF POSTDOCTORAL STUDIES

The postdoctoral studies at IZIIS are primarily organized for the purpose of enabling individual scientific advanced training of interested candidates. Therefore the time duration of the postdoctoral studies at IZIIS has been defined to be flexible and in principle, it is harmonized with the study programme and the study objectives of the candidate.

The motivation for postdoctoral studies at IZIIS can be the result of different reasons: participation in a specific scientific project realized at IZIIS, participation in joint scientific research, scientific research related to a geographical area, writing of scientific papers or books and alike.

The participation in post-doctoral studies at IZIIS should primarily result in establishment of a long year of fruitful scientific, educational and other kind of promotional academic and commercial cooperation of a common interest.

ACADEMIC PROGRAMME OF POST-DOCTORAL STUDIES

The candidate accomplishes the postdoctoral studies at IZIIS in accordance with an academic (individual) programme that has previously been adopted by the IZIIS’ Academic Council.

The academic programme for realization of postdoctoral studies at IZIIS is proposed by the candidate with the consent of a host professor from IZIIS. In the programme the candidate specifies the objectives, the contents, the expected results and the time duration in details, with a particular emphasis on the previously provided conditions for successful realization.

SELECTION OF THEME AND PROFESSOR-COORDINATOR OF POSTDOCTORAL STUDIES

To be accepted for postdoctoral studies at IZIIS, the candidate should obligatorily fulfill the following conditions prior to the beginning of the candidate’s stay at IZIIS:

• The candidate should have submitted and adopted theme and a corresponding academic programme according to which the postdoctoral studies at IZIIS will be realized.  The IZIIS’ Academic Council decides on the acceptance of the theme and the programme based on a request submitted by the candidate;
• The candidate should have an established contact and obtained consent by a corresponding professor from IZIIS, who has accepted to be coordinator of the candidate’s postdoctoral studies.
• The professor-coordinator of the postdoctoral studies is at the same time principal coordinator of the entire academic activities to be realized by the candidate in the course of the candidate’s postdoctoral stay. The theme and the contents of the academic activities of the candidate should be completely harmonized prior to the beginning of the postdoctoral stay of the candidate to enable obtaining of as successful as possible results that are of joint interest for the involved researchers and their institutions.

INTERNATIONAL CHARACTER OF POSTDOCTORAL STUDIES

The international tradition of the master and doctoral studies at IZIIS has provided complete internationality of the IZIIS’ postdoctoral studies. The candidates who have completed master or doctoral studies at IZIIS have been accepted worldwide by industry and universities.

FINANCING OF POSTDOCTORAL STUDIES

The postdoctoral studies in the corresponding scientific fields are financed in a number of ways for concrete candidates. These are the following:

• Financing or partial financing of the most successful candidates directly by governments or governmental institutions of interested countries;
• Awarded international fellowships to the most successful candidates from different sources;
• Financing of selected candidates by the industry and for the needs of concrete companies;
• Financing of candidates from available European and world funds (through different prescribed instruments and programmes);
• Self-financing by interested candidates from different regions and countries from Europe and the World.

           
IZIIS is interested in accepting candidates from all countries. Starting from this basic principle, the necessary financial resources have been optimized to a realistic level to enable acceptance of candidates.
